In 1919, Baden-Powell introduced a standardised system for leader training at Gilwell Park, near London. Completing the course earned leaders a ‘Wood Badge’, represented by a pair of wooden beads. Recipients carved their own second bead. In 1987, four beads were returned to Dinizulu’s grandson. Today, leaders worldwide receive replica wooden beads and become members of the 1st Gilwell Park Scout Group, wearing the Gilwell scarf and woggles
